On this weeks episode of the podcast I got the chance to sit down with Jake Newton. Jake is currently playing in the Finnish Elite League with KooKoo Kouvola. He is a great hockey guy, with a great hockey story. I’m super excited to share this conversation with you guys. There are a ton of good take aways and lessons to be learned for young players coming up and older guys still on the grind.
During the conversation we talk about how Jake got into the game in a place not often known for producing hockey players and what it was like getting drafted by the Ducks. We also get into the business side of the game and discuss the good, the bad and the ugly. What I respect most about Jake is his resiliency, commitment to the game and his never give up attitude. It was a pleasure chatting with him and I know you guys will enjoy this episode.
I have decided to share a quote from a blog post that Jake wrote to give a little more insight in his back story before diving into the podcast. If you are looking to learn more about Jake, you can check him out over on Instagram, or check out the rest of his blog post. Links are down below. Enjoy!
“To say My hometown wasn’t a hockey hotbed is putting it very lightly. I can tell you one thing for sure; I am the first ever professional hockey player to come from San Jacinto, California. If you have never heard of it, I completely understand. Let’s just say no one would ever vacation there. The hockey part of my life comes from my mom’s Canadian blood. Three of my four siblings were born there, and we bounced around from Canada to the US up until I was two years old. My brothers and sister played hockey, so it was a path that was sort of laid out for me at a young age. Because we lived in California, there wasn’t much ice around, so we all played roller hockey. At the age of ten, I switched over to ice and started my journey as a California hockey player. It has been the hardest journey of my life, but one I am grateful for, as it has shaped me into who I am today”
