Whats going on guys, were back this week with another video, and in this weeks clip I share with you a drill that I like to use to work on different edge drills and skating skills.
I think its important to keep things fresh out on there on the ice, try different things ,and set up drills in different ways and always keep players on their toes and constantly have them thinking, I think this drill is a great way to do that, its also great to use at the start of practice, to get players warmed up, get their heads into practice and have them feeling comfortable on their blades.
Using the lines as a visual guide in my opinion helps keep players centred and in a good balance position throughout the drill. And from a coaches perspective it allows me too show players how they should be lined up, where there body weight should be, and what it feels like to do the drill correctly while maintaining that solid body position.
Whether you’re a coach or a player, I recommend you give this one a shot next time you hit the ice, start off slow with those simple inside edge movements, and slowly process to some outside edges and mohawk turns once you feel more comfortable. Lots of different skills and drills you can get after with this set up, so don’t stop at the examples I gave, get creative, challenge yourself, and progressive to wherever you feel comfortable!
Hope you guys enjoyed this drill, take care and we will see you next week with another new video!
Bye for now,
Coach Matt
